Health Services Research

The research area "Care Research of Infectious Diseases" deals with the description and improvement of the care of infectious diseases and in particular sepsis as the most severe form of progression of infectious diseases. The complete treatment path from prevention, early detection and adequate treatment to the consequences of the disease and its long-term course is covered. The research area is organized on an interdisciplinary basis and integrates medical, social science and epidemiological expertise.

SMITH - Intelligent Medical Information Technology for the Healthcare Sector

In the Medical Informatics Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the university medical sites of Leipzig, Aachen, Jena, Hamburg, Bonn, Essen and Halle are being funded. Their goal is to develop an innovative structure for cross-institutional networking and the exchange of research and health care data between the sites and beyond the consortium, within the framework of the SMITH alliance. The Institute of Infectious Diseases and Infection control is participating in this joint project.

German Quality Alliance Sepsis

The German Quality Alliance Sepsis (DQS) aims to improve the treatment of patients with sepsis in the participating hospitals throughout Germany and thereby significantly reduce the number of sepsis-related deaths. The DQS emerged from the ICOSMOS project, which was implemented at the Center for Sepsis Control and Care at Jena University Hospital from 2015 to 2018 with funding from the BMBF.
