Since April 2021, Heike Dorow has been working as a medical staff member at the Institute of General Medicine as part of the JENOS AoM (outpatient-oriented medicine) team, where she is involved in training students in specialized outpatient clinical instruction. In addition to organizing and conducting courses, her responsibilities include recruiting and supervising teaching physicians and planning meetings for teaching physicians.

After completing her medical degree (1986–1992) at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, she completed her residency in surgery at the University Surgical Clinic of Friedrich Schiller University in Jena (1992–2002). This was followed by an additional 6 months of residency training in general surgery at the Helios Clinic in Blankenhain (2002).
In 2003, she earned her board certification in surgery.
From 2003 to 2014, she worked as a staff physician at Dr. Carsten Dorow’s surgical practice, providing outpatient care, and as a clinical researcher at the X-pert-Med GmbH study center in Jena.
In 2014, she established her practice at the Carsten and Heike Dorow Surgical Group Practice in Kahla, which she continued to operate until 2023.
From 2018 to 2021, she was involved in various scientific sepsis research projects (Central German Sepsis Cohort, OPTIMISE, ICROS, ICOVID) at the KAI at Jena University Hospital.
