Dr. rer. nat. Robby Markwart has been working as a research fellow at the Institute of General Practice and Family Medicine since 2020. As a biochemist and health services researcher with a PhD, his main research interests lie in the fields of point-of-care diagnostics in (general) medical practice and infection epidemiology. He is currently primarily involved in the projects “TransDiag”, “EXPECT” and supports the development of the clinical guideline “Antibiotic Stewardship in outpatient care”. In addition to his research activities, Robby Markwart contributes to teaching at the Medical Faculty of Jena University Hospital and regularly supervises theses (master’s theses and medical dissertations).

After studying Biochemistry/Molecular Biology (Diploma) at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Robby Markwart worked as a research associate at the Center for Sepsis Control and Care at UKJ (2011–2015) and earned his PhD in Biochemistry in 2015. He then worked as a scientific advisor at the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) in the Competence Centre for Laboratory Medicine (2015–2018). From 2018 to 2020, Robby Markwart was employed as a research associate in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the Robert Koch Institute.

In 2023, Robby Markwart received the Dr. Lothar and Martin Beyer Award from the German Foundation for General Practice and Family Medicine.
