Lecture Series Sepsis and Sepsis Sequelae, K. Sohn

A different approach towards molecular diagnostics of bloodstream infections

Dr. Kai Sohn

Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology, Stuttgart

Date: Tuesday, 8 May 2018, 4:00 pm

Location: Seminar room 10; Research and Institute Building, House F2, Jena University Hospital, Am Klinikum 1

Continuing education credits LÄK Thuringia: 2 points category A

The Functional Genomics research group headed by Dr. Kai Sohn develops and applies innovative methods (e.g. next-generation sequencing, synthetic biology) for the identification of biomarkers for personalized diagnostics of various clinical indications, in particular for the molecular analysis of infection processes, but also for the characterization of microorganisms in industrial biotechnology. Furthermore, methods for the qualitative and quantitative characterization of complex microbial metagenomes and metatranscriptomes are developed and applied to diagnostics and environmental biotechnology. Our automated sample preparation, next generation sequencing and high performance computing workflows are available for cooperation and joint research projects, as well as research projects of industrial clients.
