For over 95 years, the Department of Dermatology at Jena University Hospital has combined routine and specialized dermatological care with basic research and clinical, patient-centered research. In the Human Skin Biology Research Lab, the focus is on investigating the interactions between the skin and (bio)materials, identifying new antimicrobial and skin-care substances, and evaluating new, innovative technologies for (infectious) skin diseases. In addition, methods for eliminating pathogenic biofilms, such as those found in chronic wounds, are being investigated. Another key area of focus is research into resistance mechanisms in dermatophytes to improve treatment options for patients. Furthermore, our research focuses on the metabolic regulation of the human immune response.
