Application and Admission

How to apply

Required documents

Information on the admission requirements can be found here and in §2 of the Programme Regulations ("Studienordnung").

For your application you will need the following documents:

  • a proof of a first university degree (e.g. bachelor, diploma, state exam) or transcripts of records, if the study programme is still in progress, showing that at least 140 credit points have been earned so far,
  • a typed application letter (max. 500 words) in which the applicant displays motivation
    and eligibility as well as skills relevant to the master programme (letter of motivation),
  • if available: proofs of scientific achievements (e.g. scientific work, publications,  research projects, research or studies abroad),
  • if available: proofs of relevant work positions (e.g. biological technical assistant (BTA), chemical technical assistant (CTA) or medical technical assistant (MTA), job positions in the industry),
  • if available: proofs of proficiency in the English language.

Deadlines

The Master of Science programme in Medical Photonics starts only in winter terms. Online applications are possible from April 1st until July 15th.

 

Submission of the application

Applications for the Master of Science programme in Medical Photonics have to be submitted via the Master Service Centre of the Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena. Please, submit your application using the link to the Medical Photonics Application Page. Here, you can find further information concerning the online application. To start the application procedure please insert your programme semester and your nationality and click on "Go to Application portal".

 

After having submitted your application ...

After having received your application (including the online forms and the signed application form in paper by regular mail) your documents will be processed and checked by the Master Service Centre.

If documents are missing the Master Service Center will contact you. In this case you will have the possibility to upload the missing document(s) into the online system.

When your application is complete and formally complying with the requirements (i.e. all mandatory documents are uploaded) your digital application will be forwarded to the admission/examination committee of the M.Sc. programme.

The admission committee will decide on your admission and forward its decision to the Master Service Center, which will then inform you on the decision via e-mail.

During this phase, we ask you to refrain from enquiries (by telephone or in writing by e-mail) concerning your current application status. You can always check your status by logging in into the Master-Online-Application system.
