FAQs
Weitere Informationen zur Bewerbung zum Master M.Sc. Molecular Medicine finden Sie nachfolgend in den FAQs.
Eligibility
The program "Molecular Medicine" is suitable for successful graduates of a Bachelor's program in "Biochemistry/Molecular Biology" or a professionally equivalent program with a biological, biochemical and molecular biology focus.
The assessment of equivalence takes into account the scope, the course content in the curriculum and the examination results achieved in the Bachelor's degree program. The assessment of equivalence is in the responsibility of the application committee based on our study regulations.
Eligibility - limitations
Unfortunately, we have to have very strict requirements for admission since we get several hundred applications each year. With a Bachelor’s degree in Botany/Zoology/Dentistry/Veterinary medicine, you would not be able to compete against an outnumber of student with a biochemistry/molecular biology/biotechnology background even with 92.5 percent. Hence, your chances to get admission are not realistic.
Application – deadlines and links
Application is possible online at the Master Service Centre from 01.04.2025 until 31.05.2025.
The entire application process takes place online via the Master Service Centre in the Friedolin 2.0 portal (all information here: Master Service Centre (uni-jena.de) and here Masters application (uni-jena.de)).
What documents have to be submitted with your application, you can find here: Molecular Medicine (uni-jena.de). Please provide all application documents in the application portal Friedolin 2.0. Do not send application documents via e-mail to the coordinator or programme director, as we are not able to edit your application in the portal.
Application - online via application portal only
The entire application process takes place online via the Master Service Centre in the Friedolin 2.0 portal (Masters application (uni-jena.de)).
Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity to look at applications outside the official portal. Only when you apply via Friedolin 2.0 we will be able to fully judge your application.
Application – support
As the Master Service Centre checks your documents for completeness, it will inform you which documents may still need to be submitted and what the deadlines are.
The Master Service Centre will support you and answer your questions about the application process, the portal or when submitting your documents. If you have any questions, please send your request via Friedolin 2.0 service request in the Friedolin 2.0 portal.
Application – process timeline
The Master Service Centre will pre-review your documents for completeness. It will support you and inform you about which documents may still need to be submitted and what the deadlines are. For further questions within the application process, please send your request via Friedolin 2.0 service request in the Friedolin 2.0 portal.
The Master-Service Centre will forward your application to the program's own application committee. After reviewing the application, the committee will start to interview all qualified students as soon as possible.
The program's own application committee will make the final decision on acceptance or rejection of the application. The decision will be communicated via the Master Service Centre in the Friedolin 2.0 portal.
Final decisions are made on an ongoing basis, starting in May until at least the end of July, beginning of August.
Notifications about application status
You can see the status of your application in the Friedolin 2.0 portal.
You may also check, whether you received a message from the Master Service Centre via the Friedolin 2.0 portal regarding your documents. You will be informed by the Master Service Center via the portal if you receive an offer of admission or if your application is rejected.
Otherwise, the Master Service Centre or the application committee is still in the reviewing process.
Studies not yet completed
If you have not yet completed your studies and therefore do not yet have your graduation documents, you can first submit an overview of your previous examination results.
Your current examination results (e.g. in the overview of a preliminary transcript of records) and the current grade point average (CGPA) must be officially confirmed by your university (e.g. letter of assurance). Please submit the relevant documents with your application documents.
If the average does not appear on your current transcript, ask for a letter of assurance from your university.
Capacity/GPA
Last year we received more than 1200 applications. This means for 30 places there is a high competition. We accept applications from all over the world and try to ensure a good international mixture. However, an exact GPA for acceptance will depend on the number and quality of applicants.
Grading
Due to the different grading systems, your final grade can only be classified with information about your university's grading system.
APS certificate
If you do not yet have your APS certificate you can still go ahead with your application. You can submit you APS certificate later. If you are granted admission, you must submit the APS certificate together with your enrolment documents.
Language – type of certificate
English language skills at a B2 level are a prerequisite for admission. The number of points corresponding to B2 level depends on the language certificate. Here you will find an overview of how many points per language certificate must be achieved for a CEFR B2 level: IELTS Band Scores and English levels comparison chart (yourielts.net)
Language – alternative proof of language skills
It may be that an English language master's degree (confirmed on your transcript of records) is sufficient proof of your English language skills. Please send your request to the Master Service Centre (via Friedolin 2.0 service request).
An English proficiency letter would be okay if it contains a statement about your skills and not only that the classes were taught in English.
A test would be preferable as this demonstrates your skills, whereas a general statement from your school mentioning English as a language is very general but says nothing about your personal skills.
Financing
Unfortunately, we cannot offer you a scholarship. There are no tuition fees for the course. Only a semester contribution is due each semester (Semester fee (uni-jena.de)). You must also be able to cover your own living costs.
