The Comprehensive Cancer Center Central Germany unites the two oncology centers in central Germany: the Leipzig University Cancer Center (UCCL) and the UniversityTumorCenter (UTC) Jena.
They work together at the highest level and share the mutual goal: United to beat cancer.
The clinics, institutes, faculties and centers of both university hospitals in Leipzig and Jena work hand in hand together with their regional network for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, aftercare and research of cancer.
The superordinate structure of the Cancer Center Central Germany enables synergies that enable access to optimal treatments for our patients.
Together, both sites treat about 18,000 cancer inpatients per year of whom about 5,200 receive a surgery. Additionally, 70,000 cancer patients are treated in the outpatient centers for chemo or radiation therapies.
We have defined the following as our main tasks:
Excellent Patient Care
Oncological care in Germany is based on a three-stage certification system of the German Cancer Society and German Cancer Aid. The basis is formed by the Organ Cancer Centers, followed by the Oncological Centers. The Comprehensive Central German Cancer Center, as one of 15 university, highly specialized Comprehensive cancer centers(CCC), forms the highest level of oncological care.
- We offer multidisciplinary, intersectoral and holistic treatment of complex oncologic diseases based on highest quality standards and new scientific findings for the region of Central Germany.
- We accompany our cancer patients and their relatives during and after cancer therapy to alleviate physical and mental burden of the treatments and consequences of cancer.

Basic Sciences and Clinical Research
Together, we want to advance clinical and translational cancer research in Central Germany and provide all patients easy- access to innovative therapies.
- We advance the prevention, diagnostic, therapy and aftercare of cancers by facilitating basic science and its bench to bedside translation for clinical application.
- We focus on two main research areas:

Regional Network
Through our network of more than 70 cooperation partners in the region of Central Germany, we guarantee our
patients a high quality of care as well as treatment and care close to their home.
- We develop necessary requirements and structures to facilitate equal care for all cancer patients in Central Germany.
- We encourage the gain and transfer of knowledge and quality standards in our network consisting of all relevant stakeholders of the regional health care system.
