Thema: "Development and application of a complex, trans-sectoral intervention to improve adherence to medication in neurogeriatric patients"

Poor adherence is a major issue in health care and is associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and immense costs for the health care system. Due to demographic changes, the burden of neurological diseases in elderly patients in Germany is increasing with a crucial exacerbation of the problem of non-adherence. Based on existing data from our own large observational trial in the Department of Neurology of the UKJ, this project will develop a complex trans-sectorial intervention to improve adherence in elderly patients with neurological disorders. A cluster randomized trial will be performed to study the effectiveness (in terms of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and adherence) and perception (barriers and facilitators of implementation) of these interventions in patients, caregivers, practicing neurologists, and general practitioners.
