Dr. Hans J. Vogel is one of Canada's leading biochemists. He was originally trained as an NMR spectroscopist in the Netherlands, Canada and Sweden. Over the years, his research has dealt with protein phosphorylation and with regulatory calcium binding proteins, such as calmodulin. His group has also been very active in studies of various antimicrobial and anticancer peptides. In recent years he has been leading the metabolomics research program in Calgary, where the emphasis has been on disease diagnosis and prognosis of cancer, osteoarthritis and sepsis. The latter studies were focused on adults and children of varying ages. In 2012 he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
